コピー機が原稿を照明ランプで照らし感光体に映し出すとき、原稿を動かすと感光体には図像が伸びたり反転したり、モノクロの原稿が色鮮やかに転写され印刷される。この現象を利用し、印刷されたものを下絵とし銅版画の制作を行い、銅版画とコピー機２つの印刷技術を融合させた表現を模索している。

モチーフとなるのは自身が拾い集めた枯れた植物や、虫の遺骸、人工物の破片など、様々なものがあるが共通しているのはものが役割を終えそれでも形が残っているもの、ということ。放置していけばそのまま朽ちてなくなってしまうものを拾い集め記録のように作品にする。出来た作品を原稿とし、コピー機にかけたりもう一度銅版画にしたりする。その行き来の中でモチーフは形までもが変容し、新たな表情を見せる。私は朽ちていくしかないものがもう一度自分の手で変容していく瞬間を見ようとしているのかもしれない。

Fumiko Takeo – Copperplate Print Artist

Born in 1994 in Osaka Prefecture, currently based in Kyoto.
Graduated from the Graduate School of Art, Kyoto City University of Arts in 2019.

When a photocopier illuminates the original document with a lamp and projects it onto the photoconductor, moving the original causes the image on the photoconductor to stretch or reverse. A monochrome original can be transferred and printed in vivid colors. Utilizing this phenomenon, I use the printed image as an underdrawing to create copperplate prints, exploring expressions that merge the two printing techniques of copperplate printing and photocopying.

My motifs include various items such as withered plants I have collected, insect remains, fragments of man-made objects, and more. What they have in common is that they have fulfilled their roles but still retain their forms. I collect these things, which would otherwise decay and disappear if left alone, and turn them into artworks as a form of documentation. The completed artworks are used as originals to be copied or transformed back into copperplate prints. In this process of back and forth, the motifs undergo transformations, revealing new expressions. Perhaps I am attempting to witness the moment when something destined to decay transforms again by my own hands.
